Majestic Star Casino Sponsors Holiday Food Drive
Buffington Harbor, Ind., 10/22/01 - Majestic announced plans today to hold a three-day food drive. The casino will collect non-perishable items on November 13th-15th from casino guests and employees. Casino guests donating two or more items will receive bonus double points for the day. Guests can sign up to become Club Majestic members to earn promotional points for entries into card drawings. All non-perishable items collected will be donated to America's Second Harvest of Northwest Indiana.
The organization is a member of America's Second Harvest National Foodbank and Food Rescue Network. They are a private not-for-profit community organization dedicated to feeding people and ending hunger in Northwest Indiana. Their mission is to provide food and other grocery products for needy people through a network of charities. Second Harvest acts as a broker between the food industry, donors, and charitable feeding programs and is organized to receive large quantities and a variety of surplus items. During year 2000 more than 879,000 pounds of food and grocery items were distributed to the needy in Gary through a network of 50 charities. The product had a cash value of $1.4 million, and served over 81,000 people.
"Majestic is proud to host this second annual food drive," said Chareice White, community relations manager for Majestic. "Our goal is to remain committed to the community and by providing a food drive during this time of the year, we feel it will truly make a difference for several families experiencing challenges this winter."
