United Way Receives Casino Contribution

Buffington Harbor, Ind., 2/27/02  -  Majestic Star Casino contributed $56,076 toward the Lake Area United Way campaign.

The organization calls upon community volunteers to assist in collecting donations from local health to human service agencies. Currently, United Way funds 45 agencies and provide 73 programs and services.

During the past few months Majestic Star team members strategically created fundraising ideas to generate contributions for United Way. Several weekly activities were held during the campaign.

"It was a thrill for me to be the 2002 campaign manager for Majestic Star," said Bridgette Campbell, Human Resources training specialist. "It was very inspiring to see so many team members pull together for a common cause. Many said they were happy to be given the opportunity to come up with their own fundraisers to achieve their team's goal. Their creativity was astounding! From Krispy Kreme Donut sales, to Halloween carnivals, along with taco and tamale sales, the various team's really pulled together. The creativity as well as the competitive spirit proved to be a successful and enjoyable campaign."

In addition to Majestic Star's financial contribution the casino loaned Theo Smith as a full time executive to assist with the campaign. The loan executive program was designed to enhance the skills of the volunteer in the area of public speaking, sales, team building, goal setting, deadlines, and groomed to master professional and personal skills.

"Being a loan executive helped me to realize the importance and benefits of helping people", said Theo Smith of Majestic Star. "The experience also helped me to be a more giving person. I highly recommend to anyone that has time to give, your time will not be wasted as a loan executive. It truly is a rewarding and learning experience."
