Casino Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Team members walk for a worthy cause
November 23, 2001 - Buffington Harbor, Ind. Buffington Harbor, Ind. - Majestic Star Casino was a sponsor of the Gary Community Health Center and Mayor Scott L. King's Third Annual Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Walkathon. Majestic staff members formed a team of walkers to support breast cancer awareness. The purpose of the walk was to inform, educate, and encourage women in the community that early detection is the best protection. Gary's first lady Irene King, was grand Marshall for the walk. The Gary Community Health Center is a partner with the Indiana Breast Cervical Cancer Program which promotes early detection of breast and cervical cancer. The program provides free screenings to low income, under-served, uninsured and underinsured women in Indiana between the ages of 40-64. All proceeds from the walk are used toward services for the programs provided. "Majestic team members all know breast cancer can affect women of all walks of life," said Chareice White, Majestic's community relations manager. "It's vitally important to schedule annual visits to the doctor to have your body examined. We only have one life to live, taking care of our health makes a world of difference."
