Buffington Harbor, Ind. - Majestic Star Casino helped Northwest Indiana Sickle Cell Foundation celebrate 30 years of service at a recent fundraising dinner.

The foundation hosted its annual fundraising dinner at Marquette Park Pavilion. Several hundred supporters, politicians, community leaders, family and friends were on hand to congratulate Sickle Cell on making a difference in the community.

Sickle Cell celebrates 30 years of service providing free sickle cell screening and five years of providing care coordination to other children with special health care needs. Locally the foundation receives financial assistance through grants, the Indiana State Department of Health, Lake Area United Way, the City of Gary, organizations, business and community support.

Michael Kelly, general manager of Majestic sits on the foundation board. Guests in attendance were entertained by a dance troupe from Beyond the Pointe Dance Studio. The culmination was an electrifying and mystical treat performed by the Magic of the Spellbinder, illusionist Walter King.

Board member Mary Hayes was presented with the Dozier T. Allen Jr. Award for providing many years of loyal dedication to the Sickle Cell struggle. Mr. Don H. Barden, owner of Majestic Star Casino received the Charles F. "We are very fond of NWI Sickle Cell and Bea Strong, executive director," said Chareice White, community relations manager for Majestic. "We work very closely with the foundation in helping to provide the assistance that is needed."
